Tonga travel is for those who like to keep active and explore. The islands are blessed with a huge variation of scenic attractions: remarkable blowholes, ancient archaeological sites and tiny romantic coral islands (Tongatapu), rain forest with hiking trails and caves (Eua); fishing villages and palm fringed sandy beaches (Ha'apai); hidden limestone causeways which are ideal for snorkelling, whale watching and exploring by yacht or kayak (Vava'u) and one of the most remote places on earth with fine beaches and traditional lifestyles though no accommodation (Niuas).

Flights connect the three main island groups on a daily basis (except Sunday when everything closes down) and passenger ferries leave Tongatapu for the round trip to Vava'u via Ha'apai twice a week and to Eua daily. Branching out from these main centres, though, is a little more challenging - water taxis or local fishing boats are the only way to go island hopping and few buses operate on the outer islands - even Tongatapu has a confusing network of buses (Tongans are renowned for their inability to give directions, preferring to say yes to any direction you point towards) making it easier to cycle, hire a taxi or join a day tour to see the sights.
