Tahiti sailing is amongst the very best in the South Pacific. Tahiti is blessed with some of the most beautiful islands in the world with many high volcanic islands that drop dramatically into the ocean enabling sailing right alongside the coastlines and into protected bays. Nowhere is this more pronounced than on the island of Raiatea in the Society Islands which has become the centre of sailing in Tahiti.

The main port of entry for yachts is Papeete on the main island of Tahiti, but with prior approval, yachts can also clear at Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Mangareva, Nuku Hiva, Hiva Oa and Ua Pou. Tahiti applies strict rules to visiting yachts, including a bond required for each crew member of US$800 (refundable less 3% handling) who has no formal outward ticket, fumigation if arriving from other South Pacific Islands or Central and South America and reporting to the local gendarmerie at every local port of call.

Raiatea and the adjacent island of Tahaa has lots of bays and natural deep water harbours as well as several large yacht charter companies and individual boats offering skippered sailing cruises. Here you'll find large catamarans to single hull yachts with or without a skipper and even small hobbie cats to hire for the day.
