Air New Zealand fly direct from Auckland to Fiji (6/week), Cook Islands (8/week), Samoa (4/week), Tonga (5/week) and Tahiti (6/week). There are daily connections to these Auckland flights from most other New Zealand cities and several per week from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Air Pacific fly direct to Fiji from Auckland (9/week - 1 connects on to Samoa, 2 connect on to Tonga), Sydney (daily - 1 connects on to Samoa), Brisbane (5/week - 1 connects on to Samoa and 1 to Tonga) and Melbourne (3/week - 1 connects on to Tonga). In addition to the Fiji flights, Air Pacific operate 2 flights per week from Auckland and Sydney direct to Suva. Qantas fly direct to Fiji from Brisbane (2/week), Sydney (4/week) and Melbourne (3/week).
A host of local South Pacific Islands also fly these routes including Air Pacific and Polynesian Airlines, although many of these flights are code-share with either Air New Zealand or Qantas.
Flights at Christmas are often full as this is the season islanders return to their native countries to visit relatives.
