The South Pacific offers some truly outstanding hiking opportunities into remote tropical valleys and passing traditional inland villages. This is a great place to explore with lush tropical rain forest and safe and friendly environments - there are virtually no dangerous animals or insects, no spiders, no snakes and virtually no crime.

Hawaii has several National Parks and numerous areas where you camp or rent a cabin along remote beaches. The contrasting scenery of white sandy beaches and razor sharp rainforested cliffs on Kauai and the desert landscape and volcanoes of the Big Island are experiences not to be missed.

Fiji has two National Parks with overnight lodges and treks to traditional villages. Whilst hiking is possible in other parts of Fiji, camping outside designated areas is prohibited - the land to islanders is very sacred and you can quite innocently upset local protocol by wandering off and doing your own thing. If you are going to camp in the wilderness, make sure you first have the permission from the local village chief.

Tahiti has some of the regions most breath-taking mountain scenery and with it some excellent hiking trails into remote regions.

Samoa has some outstanding overnight hiking trails, with several fantastic coastal walks on eastern Upolu, staying overnight in traditional villages as well as scaling the 1800 plus metre Mt. Silisili on Savaii.

The Cook Islands offers several great day trails for hikers on the main island of Rarotonga, plus for those who enjoy exploring caves, there are some fascinating guided walks on Atiu and Mangaia.

Tonga has only a few small hiking trails on Eua Island and on Vavau.
