Visiting a traditional Samoa village is one of the highlights of a South Pacific trip. Samoa offers one of the most traditional experiences in the region and the country is nicely set up for tourists to immerse themselves in the local culture and help support the Samoan way of Life.

Samoan Villages are spread out along the coastal highways of Upolu and Savaii. Village houses usually have a defined area which are marked off by small hedges of flowers - only houses in town have fences. Most Samoan villages still retain a very traditional lifestyle, with subsistence farming and fishing the main livelihood. Houses are of fale style, being rounded single room buildings with open sides, coconut fronds as curtains, and high ceilings. Those people of high ranking build their fales on raised stone foundations. The kitchen and loo is in a separate building at the back, and some families have built a second modern home at the back for sleeping and living but keep the fale as a place of rest and entertainment.
