Samoa accommodation is cheap compared to other South Pacific destinations with budget rooms available for US$20 per night and deluxe hotel rooms for US$80. Most hotels are obliged to sell only at the full rate (the rack rate) and don't offer Internet or direct booking specials - for the best deals try a south pacific travel specialist. Late minute specials are seldom offered.

The majority of accommodation is concentrated around Apia, the picturesque capital on the north shore of Upolu. Here there are over a dozen hotels, from the large and internationally acclaimed Aggie Grey's Hotel with its rich history, to small inns and self catering motels. The majority of Samoa hotels and backpacker hostels are in Apia Town centre along Beach Road but a few are in the quieter coastal regions of Vaiala Beach and Mulinu'u Peninsula a short walk either side of the town centre. There are plenty of excellent restaurants around Apia and most tour activities originate from here.
Apia Accommodation
Outside of Apia, there are only a handful of hotels around the entire country, of which only six are holiday beach resorts. Two up-market beach resorts can be found on the south coast of Upolu, including the delightful Coconuts Beach Resort which has a laid back Samoan style atmosphere and Sinalei Resort, perched on a hill with a more austere luxury style atmosphere. Another good option is the surf specialist Sa'Moana Beach Resort which has a secluded beach, fabulous beach walks and excellent snorkelling making it popular with general holiday-makers.
Savaii has less accommodation than Upolu, with two rather old fashioned hotels on the south-east coast a few miles from Salelologa Town (The Savaiian and Safua Hotels) and another middle of the range hotel (Siufaga), across the road from a picturesque beach. The most upmarket resort is undoubtedly the Le Lagoto Beach Resort at Lelepa Village on the north-east coast. Nearby is the delightful budget resort of Vacations Resort. There are just 5 self catering bungalows on a lovely beach with good snorkelling and an excellent restaurant making this the best choice for couples.
A popular budget option is to stay ion one of around 20 Beach Fales (traditional bungalows) around the islands, owned and operated by local families usually in a rural village setting or alongside a secluded beach.
Samoa Beach Fale Accommodation
American Samoa offers less to the tourist and caters mostly to the business traveller. There are a couple of international hotels near the airport and in Pago Pago Town with a couple of nice guesthouse lodges along the spectacular south coast of Tutuila Island.
