Hawaii tours are incredibly diverse and efficient. Large air-conditioned coaches take package tours to almost all the major sites. If that's not your thing, you can usually find a small local operator heading to the best out of the way sites - alternatively, hire a car and beat the crowds by going before 8am or after 4 pm - these are the best times of the day for light in any case. Getting around is very strait forward and safe and the public has access rights to much of the state-owned land as well as all rights to the coastline.
