Fiji travel by Air
Travel within Fiji is straightforward. Most destinations are connected by several daily flights and the lesser destinations most days of the week (see map on right for flight destinations). The main island of Viti Levu has two airports - Nadi International Airport and Nausori (Suva). Flights between the two cities take 25mins and from Nadi to the Northern Islands about 50mins. There are two schedule airlines in Fiji - Air Fiji and Sun Air plus the chartered airline Wakaya Air. There are also sea-plane and helicopter companies based in Nadi with regular transfers to the Mamanuca and Yasawa group and charters to all other destinations in Fiji.


Fiji travel by Sea
There are several fast catamarans serving both the Mamanuca Group and Yasawa Group departing from Denarau Marina (South Sea Cruises) near Nadi Town and from Lautoka Port (Beachcomber Cruises), north of Nadi. There are also a number of day cruises that operate from Denarau Marina. Beachcomber Cruises operate a fast passenger ferry connecting the two largest islands - between the north coast of Viti Levu and the southern coast of Vanua Levu. On the outer islands, local fishing boats operate but to no set timetable. There are several large passenger ferries which depart from the Suva Area for Ovalau (Lomaiviti Group), Vanua Levu and Taveuni (Northern Islands) and Kadavu (Southern Islands).


Fiji travel by Road
Public transport on the main island of Viti Levu is very good - open sided local buses and taxis are cheap and readily available and there are numerous air conditioned tourist buses offering transfers and tours around the main island of Viti Levu. There is a tar-sealed highway (mostly single lane) around Viti Levu with lots of dirt roads leading off it into the interior. Car hire is limited to the main island of Viti Levu and to a lesser extent on Vanua Levu - driving is on the left and you need a valid driving license from your home country. On the outer islands there is virtually no public transport - hotels sometimes have the only vehicles on the island but there will always be plenty of small boats to take you around for the day. Moped hire is available in Nadi and along the Coral Coast on Viti Levu.
