Overview
Fiji travel is the most diverse in the South Pacific. There are over 300 islands to visit, about 150 fiji accommodation properties and more than 50 organised day tours to enjoy. With over 400,000 tourists in 2007, and a highly developed tourist infrastructure, Fiji is the envy of its South Pacific neighbours. There is something here for everyone - gorgeous palm-fringed beaches, uninhabited coral islands and crystal clear lagoons, truly beautiful coral reefs, lush tropical rainforest with high mountains and a traditional village-orientated culture. This makes it an all round destination for beach vacations, active holidays, exploring and backpacking.

Viti Levu is the heart of the country with the tourist town of Nadi and the capital city of Suva. Over half the 800,000 population live here. Viti Levu is characterised by high tropical mountains, dry on the leeward west side (nadi) and wet on the windward east side (suva). The remote interior is one of the greatest wilderness in the Pacific whilst on the dry south and western coasts, in stark contrast, large international hotel chains cater mostly to the Australian and Japanese package holiday market.
The offshore coral atolls of the Mamanuca Islands are the gem in Fiji's tourism. Here there are lots of up-market beach resorts, water activities and day cruises. Backpackers head further north to the Yasawa Islands where secluded beaches, locally run beach resorts and great snorkelling offer the ultimate chill out destination.
Fiji is one of the best destinations in the world for a beach vacation. There are hundreds of small islands to explore, many with secluded resorts along a white sandy beach. Some areas are more commercial than others. Whether you looking for a five star Fiji beach resort or a palm-fringed remote sweeping beach for beachcombing, you won't be disappointed in Fiji's beaches. Most of the resorts in Fiji offer great wedding packages. This usually includes a beach side altar and marriage celebrant, exotic flowers, champagne and beautifully dressed local Fijians singing in harmony. Nightlife is very tame with serenading, sunset cocktails and watching local traditional dances under the stars the main highlights. Night clubbing is almost non-existent.
