Air Rarotonga is the only internal airline operating in the Cook Islands and without competition, its internal flights are expensive and the service provided lacks competetive efficiency.

Unless you're prepared to take irregular cargo boats (18 hours to Aitutaki), then flying with Air Rarotonga is your only option. Aitutaki, the most visited of the outer islands, is a 45-minute flight to the north of Rarotonga. Day tours to Aitutaki are offered including return flights and a day cruise on Aitutaki Lagoon, departing at 9am and returning at 5.30pm. The only other island with general tourist appeal is Atiu, also a 45-minute flight from Rarotonga.

Air Rarotonga has scheduled flights from Rarotonga to seven of the other islands including Mitiaro, Mauke, Mangaia, Penrhyn and the northern islands of Tongareva, Manihiki / Rakahanga and Pukapuka.
