The Cook Islands has some good Scuba Diving sites right off Rarotonga, the main island, although these are best suited for beginners and casual 'holiday' divers. There is some Surfing around Rarotonga, although all are reef breaks along passages and patience will be required as the swirls are not that reliable. No-one rents boards on the island although Niki's Surf shop sometimes has second hand boards. Game fishing around Rarotonga is excellent year round with the big fish close to the main reef. Marlin, Yellow-fin Tuna and Wahoo are common and several game-fishing charters are available for 4-6 hour trips.


Both Rarotonga and Aitutaki are small islands without a huge scope for exploring. However, there are a few excellent hiking trails and quiet valley roads on Rarotonga and Atiu for exploring with a wealth of nature and bird life ... more on hiking
